About the studio and the scholarship

Coyote Music Studio is owned by Tonya Blum, who specializes in music therapy for all ages and early childhood music education. The mission of the studio is to bring affordable music education and music therapy to Denton County. As part of that mission, we’re offering a free semester for a student, 9 years and up, to learn piano, flute, or ukulele. Application deadline for the Fall 2021 semester is July 15th. A panel of 5 judges, Ms. Tonya and 4 community volunteers, will review applications and choose the winner, who will be notified July 17, 2021 by email and phone as well as announced at the Fundraiser event. Lessons begin in September 2021.

Qualifications
1. Applicants must be 9 years or older and can not be a current student at Coyote Music Studio. Former and new students are welcome to apply.
2. The scholarship winner will demonstrate an exceptional desire to learn either piano, ukulele, or flute through the essay questions below. Young students and those with learning differences are welcome to dictate their answers to an adult but the written answers should sound like the applicant “speaking” and not the adult.
3. The scholarship winner will need to have or get their own instrument by their 2nd lesson. Cheap instruments can be found at pawn shops, Craigslists, and Facebook marketplace. Please apply even if you don’t have one and we’ll help you find one to begin on.
4. The scholarship winner will be required to participate in the studio recital at the end of the semester.
