"Different from common guided meditations, which provide the setting and visuals for you, this is music therapy. Tonya provides the right music and sets you up to create your own visualizations. This is a much more powerful tool in achieving your personal goals than following someone else's visuals."
Sessions may be scheduled for your facility by contacting Tonya

Music & Mindfulness for Families, Full Description
The 60 min monthly workshop is led by Board-Certified Music Therapist, Tonya S. Blum Lincoln, and begins with fun movement activities set to music that help you become more aware of your body. This also helps our younger group members get into the "mindfulness zone" before we begin the meditation. Tonya then leads the group through a short guided meditation set to music that's been researched to provide a safe space for you to explore your visualizations during the meditation. Different from common guided meditations, which provide the setting and visuals for you, this is music therapy. Tonya provides the right music and sets you up to create your own visualizations. This is a much more powerful tool in achieving your personal goals than following someone else's visuals. Group members then process their experience through art and discussion.
No artistic ability is necessary! Sometimes just "putting color to paper" is more powerful than drawing a beautiful scene.
No meditation experience is necessary. Tonya leads you through everything.
Only recorded music is used during the Monday Mindfulness classes so no musical experience is needed.
Classes are designed to achieve personal goals (such as improving emotional states, learning new relaxation/coping techniques, increasing attention/focus, improving self-care, increasing communication skills, increasing thankfulness, forgiveness, compassion, and other goals).
Through art and discussion, group members process their experiences in the meditation and how it relates to their goals.
Group goals are continually assessed and tailored to regular attendee's needs. Personal goals are set by each group member but group goals for each workshop remain broad in order to better bring group cohesion and these workshops are not a substitute for intensive, personal therapy. Please talk to Tonya if you would like to discuss private music therapy sessions or want recommendations for counselors.
*Different from a Guided Imagery and Music session, you don't describe your experience while it's happening and Tonya doesn't intervene during your meditation to take you deeper. If you'd like to experience a full GIM session, ask Tonya for recommendations on certified practitioners or visit the AMI website.
