Welcome to Coyote Music Studio! I’m very excited that you’ve chosen to learn music with me and I'm looking forward to teaching you. Covid restrictions are still place in the studio. Please see details below.
Scheduling and Payments I use a Student Portal powered by My Music Staff for scheduling, payments, sharing music, and student information. All students are required to enroll through the Enrollment Tab Once you complete enrollment, you'll receive an email with login information for your Student Portal account. You can then register for a trial lesson by going to the Calendar Tab, clicking on any open lesson, and clicking "Register." You can also call or email Ms. Tonya to schedule.
After your trial lesson, you can choose to continue paying weekly or monthly for the drop-in rate or you can receive a 10% discount by purchasing a Package of 12 or more Lessons/Classes (See the Absence Policy below). Packages may be split among siblings.
Sibling Discount - 10% off for every child after the first enrolled.
You can pay online through your Student Portal account but discounts must applied manually so contact Tonya if you're interested in purchasing a Package of Lessons or want to apply a Sibling Discount. You may also pay through Paypal: paypal.me/Coyotemusicstudio Discounts do not apply to Zoom Family Music classes.
You’ll receive a reminder notification for each class, lesson, or music therapy session that will contain location information or the Zoom Meeting ID and Password to connect. You can change how you receive reminders (email, text, or both) by logging into the Student/Parent Portal (My Music Staff) and updating your information. There is a login box on the Home Page.If you need to miss for any reason, you can notify me through My Music Staff or send an email. See the Absence Policy below.
Absence Policy for Private and Group Lessons Try not to miss. Frequent instruction is vital to progress. Students must give at least 2 hours notice before canceling or they will be charged for the lesson. Students may only cancel or reschedule 1x with a 6 week period. The 2nd cancellation within 6 weeks will be charged to the student's account and the 3rd cancellation within 6 weeks will move the student to the waiting list for future lessons. Exceptions are made for summer/winter breaks and family emergencies.
Important Lesson Information Lessons students will need to purchase method books for your instrument. Do NOT buy them before contacting Tonya as it will be based on age and current abilities. All students are expected to bring a 3 ring binder to lessons AND practice outside of their lesson time. A good policy for beginners is to start with 10 minute practice sessions, 2-3 times each week, and add time as your music becomes more challenging. Young students should be not be encouraged to "practice" but instead to show the family what they learned in lessons or teach a family member what they learned. This is more fun for them and will help them remember. Frequent Practice is more important to progressing in music than lesson time and Practice Time can’t be made up!Muscle memory needs to be built. It doesn’t matter if you know what the music says if you can’t play it. 10 minutes every other day is better than an hour once a week.

Important Covid Restrictictions 6/22/21/ Updated Mask Policy for the private lesson studio - With the Covid infection numbers declining in Denton County and the number of people being vaccinated increases, many of the city's buildings and private businesses in Denton no longer require customers to wear a mask. Here at Coyote Music Studio, Ms. Tonya has been vaccinated since late April and mask wearing continues to be the choice of each family. The CDC has stated that fully vaccinated adults can not pass on the virus but since many of my students can't be vaccinated due to age or illnesses, mask wearing in the studio will remain your choice without judgement. Exceptions will be voice and flute students who have the option to sit by a window during lessons since we can't wear masks while we play flute or sing. What the studio is doing to keep you safe. 1. Wearing a mask during your studio time and sanitizing. 2. The private studio is "By Appointment Only." No drop-ins. 3. Students will no longer be scheduled "back to back" but instead there will be time scheduled between each student to allow for cleaning. 4. All materials, instruments, and public areas used will be sanitized after every lesson. 5. We will not be offering water since I can't make the dispenser safe and I don't want to use too much plastic. Be sure to bring your own water - especially singers! 6. Windows will be open in the studio to allow for more ventilation when permitted by weather. 7. We will move back to Zoom at the first sign of illness - yours or mine - whether it's Covid or not. Flu is down this year too and I'd like to keep it out of the studio.
How does this affect students? 1. Instrumental students will be required to wear a mask at all times while in the studio. Voice students who need to practice breathing and vocal techniques without a mask will sing out the open window, which is more than 12 feet from my piano. 2. Be sure to bring your own water - especially singers! 3. Students will remain in the car when arriving at the studio and text me. I'll reply when the previous student has left and the studio is ready for you. 4. Observers will not be allowed in the studio. Adults may wait on the porch (you'll be able to hear most everything through the door) or the picnic tables in the side yard. You can also drop-off and pick-up after the lesson. 5. Students will be asked to use hand sanitizer upon entering the studio. 6. The studio is large enough for us to remain apart during the lesson. I've gotten very good at directing kids long distanced through Zoom so this should be way easier!
