First: Lesson students are expected to bring a 3 ring binder to lessons with all their books and related materials. Please get a tote bag to carry it all.
Highlights:
1. LOCATION
Coyote Music Studio: 2832 N. Locust St, Denton, TX 76209
All lessons, classes, and private music therapy sessions are held in the full studio in the front part of the house at 2832 N. Locust St and is separate from the rest of the house. Students are welcome to schedule a tour before beginning lessons by emailing [email protected].
This house was renovated in 2024 so please remember this when looking up pictures on the internet!
Music Therapy Workshops are held at various locations in Denton county. Refer to your specific class information for this.
PARKING – When arriving at the private studio, park in front of the parking signs on the north fence, under the trees. Please do not park alongside the house, as it makes it hard for others to pull in the drive, and leave open the spot next to my car (the little white Toyota).
2. SCHEDULING AND PAYMENTS
A Student Portal is used for scheduling, payments, sharing repertoire, student information, and lesson/therapy notes. All clients and music students are required to enroll through the Enrollment Tab on coyotemusicstudio.com
Once you complete enrollment, you'll receive an email with login information for your Student Portal account. You can then register for any open spot by going to the Calendar Tab and clicking "Register."
You can also call or email Ms. Tonya to schedule.
You can pay weekly, monthly, or you can receive a 10% discount on a Package of 12.
Sibling Discount - 10% off for every child after the first enrolled on weekly or monthly payments only.
Discounts can not be combined and do not apply to workshops.
Discounts must be applied manually so let Tonya know if you qualify for one.
Lessons and Classes: Payment is expected by the first lesson or class.
Music Therapy Workshops: Payment is expected upon registration. Call Tonya if you need to make other arrangements.

3. ABSENCE AND ILLNESS POLICIES
(for Lessons and Music Therapy only. Does not apply to Family Music Class)
Try not to miss. Frequent instruction is vital to progress.
If I cancel, I will always give a make-up option or credit your account for a future lesson.
Though exceptions are sometimes given for those who regularly have good attendance, students in private/group lessons and music therapy must give at least 4 hours notice and may only cancel 1x within a 6 week period without being charged. Please try to reschedule your lesson or session for the same week instead. I offer a few open times on Tuesdays for makeups only, not regular lessons.
The 2nd cancellation within 6 weeks will be charged to the student's account as a regular lesson and the 3rd cancellation within 6 weeks will move the student to the waiting list for future lessons.
Please understand that most studios require 24 hours notice and offer zero cancelations or makeups but I need students to feel like they can stay home when they are sick. I have a bad immune system and your slight illness could put me out of work for a week or more. As well, students with self-diagnosed “allergies” often get me sick and so…
Illness Policy - For any illness and self-diagnosed allergies (meaning you have not been to a doctor to confirm)...Please do not attend if you have a runny nose, cough, diarrhea, vomiting, or other symptoms of illness. You must be symptom and fever free for 24 hours to attend a class, lesson, or music therapy session at the studio.
Let me know if you have vulnerable family members and prefer I wear a mask in sessions.
4. PRACTICING (for lessons only)
Students are required to practice weekly in order to make progress but they do not know how to begin practicing on their own. THEY NEED PARENTAL HELP! THEY NEED YOU TO REMIND THEM EVERY SINGLE TIME. And they need you to show them the lesson notes I email each week so they know what to practice. This is not them being obstinate in learning how to initiate their own practice, they literally haven’t developed the skills yet and we have to teach them.
Young students should not be encouraged to "practice" but instead say “show me what you learned in music” or “Teach me how to play what you learned.” This is more fun for them and will help them remember.
Frequent Practice is more important to progressing in music than lesson time and Practice Time can’t be made up! Muscle memory needs to be built. It doesn’t matter if you know what the music says if you can’t play it.
10 minutes every other day is better than an hour once a week.
Beginners should practice for about 10min at least 2 times each week on days that ARE NOT THEIR LESSON DAY and increase the time slowly as the months go by. Begin small so they enjoy it and don’t feel overwhelmed.
4. PARENTS OBSERVING IN THE STUDIO
Family Music Classes FOR 0-5 YEARS – At least 1 adult is required to participate in the class with the child.
Private/Group Lessons and Music Therapy – Family members are permitted to observe the first lesson or MT session only but then the student/client and I need to get to know each other in order for me to learn how they learn and for them to learn what's expected in my studio. Thank you for understanding.
I have an open door policy so the doors are not locked when your child is in my studio in case you need to come in at any time. There’s a bathroom in the studio for your use as well.
Lessons and sessions may be recorded at the parent’s request if you would like to observe your child and see how they learn when you’re not around.
5. RECITALS!
All students in private and group lessons are expected to participate in the Studio Recitals each semester. Location, date, and time for the recital will be announced at the beginning of the semester and music choices will begin at least a month or more before from songs that have been learned or mastered that semester. Students with stage fright can request to play a duet with Ms. Tonya or simply have her sit on stage with them (this happens all the time so don’t be afraid to ask!).
6. Reminder Notifications
You’ll receive a reminder notification for each class, lesson, or music therapy session that will include the location by email 24 hours before your scheduled time and by text 3 hours before. You can change how you receive reminders (email, text, or both) by logging into the Student Portal and updating your information. There is a login box on the Home Page. If you need to miss for any reason, you can notify me by replying to your reminder or sending an email. See the Absence Policy.
7. Method Books!
Lesson students will need to purchase method books for your instrument and bring them to every lesson. Do NOT buy them before contacting Tonya, as the choice of books will be based on age and current abilities.
PLEASE DO NOT BUY METHOD BOOKS FROM AMAZON. They often have out of date books (previous editions we don’t use anymore) or they don’t sell the entire package. Piano students need more than just book, for example. I’ll send you the link for your materials or I will order them and add them to your invoice.

Voice students are required to bring a water bottle to lessons and all other students are highly encouraged. There is a refill station in the studio.
